Ruhrtriennale: Ingoma! - Der Rhythmus der Revolution

Wenn Klang zur kollektiven Kraft wird

„Ingoma“ bedeutet „Macht“ und „Trommel“ in Kinyarwanda, der Landessprache Ruandas. Trommeln war dort ein königliches Ritual zur Ehrung der Geschichte des Landes – Frauen blieb diese Praxis über Jahrhunderte verwehrt. Jahre nach dem Völkermord an den Tutsi 1994 fand sich eine Gruppe von Frauen zusammen. Sie begann einen Prozess der Heilung und gründete Ruandas erstes rein weibliches und damit revolutionäres Trommelensemble. Mit Sopranistin Ineza Mugisha erzählen Ingoma Nshya die Geschichten hinter ihrer Musik.

When sound becomes a collective force

„Ingoma“ means both „power“ and „drum“ in Kinyarwanda, the national language of Rwanda. There, drumming was a royal ritual to honour the country’s history – and for centuries women were prohibited to take part. Years after the Tutsi genocide in 1994, a group of women came together to start a healing process. They founded Rwanda’s first exclusively female – and thereby revolutionary – drumming ensemble. Together with soprano Ineza Mugisha, Ingoma Nshya tell the stories behind their music.
